A personal cloud on your dedicated server

Learn who Svavyom is for, how the install-and-manage workflow fits together, and what the Development Preview does today.

Who it is for

Built with first-time self-hosters in mind

The starting point is one dedicated Linux server. The intended experience connects a browser interface to typed host operations and the familiar KVM virtualization stack.

First-time self-hosters

The primary audience: people moving from managed hosting to one dedicated Linux server and the decisions that follow.

Developers

People who want to read, run and shape an understandable virtualization stack built on KVM, QEMU and libvirt.

Startups

Small teams who want to own their infrastructure. Production enterprise workloads need qualification that is not available today.

How it works

From bare server to personal cloud

The current Development Preview path: one host, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

  1. 01

    Choose your server

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on x86_64 with hardware virtualization, AppArmor and 30 GiB free under /var/lib.

  2. 02

    Install with svavyom-ctl

The installer prints its plan and changes nothing until you add --apply.

  3. 03

    Manage from a browser

Create the administrator, import an image and create your first VM.

Plan first
sudo bin/svavyom-ctl install --artifact . --create-pool --tls-self-signed HOST \
     --enable-mutation --enable-console --backup-dir /var/lib/svavyom/backups
# read the plan, then repeat with --apply

Design direction

Provider-neutral

Your host choice should not be dictated by a proprietary hosting integration.

Foundation

No new hypervisor

KVM, QEMU and libvirt keep every layer familiar and inspectable.

Preview

Restricted host operations

A read-only agent, a mutation supervisor and a console broker run as separate processes. A closed protocol carries names, never paths or XML, and no arbitrary shell or libvirt call is reachable from the browser.

Foundation

Evidence over promises

Format, vet, static analysis, race tests, vulnerability scans and accessibility gates run in a pinned Docker toolchain.

Available now

Free and open

AGPL-3.0-or-later for the server, Apache-2.0 for contracts, tools and docs. No limit, licence key, trial or call home. Run it on as many servers as you like.

Status
